Syria Inside

Syria Inside

(deutsch)

The first cinema co-production with a country that does not exist yet: the FREE Syria.

Directed by Syrian filmmakers themselves – not just about the Syrian revolution, not from the outside, but from within! (Produced by a German independent production company as there is no production possible inside Syria.)

The film is a heartbreaking, and very frightening, artistic attempt to get an idea of what the Syrian revolution means to the people on the ground:

  • A women who was raped by secret service members several times in prison, together with 100 others.
  • A young activist proposing marriage to the same woman to avoid the social shame that would otherwise fall on her.
  • A young soldier defecting from the army as he realizes they have to shoot with live ammunition on unarmed protesters
  • A former torture officer, now a prisoner of the Free Syrian Army (the armed revolutionary rebels).
  • A child visiting his destroyed school – bringing flowers to the place where his sister was killed by snipers.
  • A poet singing to a muse called freedom that he once dreamed of – and now cannot forget.
  • And Tamer Alawam himself, who remembers his times in Syrian prison, interviews people and covers stories in the middle of a violent
revolution, to find the answer to a timeless question: Which way leads
    to freedom and peace?

Release date: Early 2013

“IF YOU ASK ME WHAT YOU CAN DO, I’ll TELL YOU: DON’T LOOK AWAY. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LOOK AWAY. I WANT TO SHOW YOU SYRIA. FROM INSIDE.“

(Tamer Alawam)
